REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN INTERMEDIATE CLASS

  1. You must be proficient in your ukemi skills.  The required ukemi will include, but is not limited to the following:  Forward rolls, backward rolls, side falls, high falls & shikko.
  2. All participants must be able to execute safe ukemi from both a independent static rolling position and an active dynamic throwing situation.
  3. Students must be able to recognize and perform the following attacks: shomenuchi, yokomenuchi, munetsuki, katate dori, kata dori, ryote dori, ryokata dori, morote dori (katate dori ryote mochi), kosa dori, ushiro kubi shime, ushiro ryote dori, ushiro ryokata dori, and ushiro dori.
  4. All participants must have a basic working knowledge of bokken & jo. Note:  This does not mean you have to be an expert with these weapons. It simply means you have basic knowledge of how to handle them properly, basic attacks, proper kamae and some exposure to Saotome Shihan’s kumi tachi & kumi jo.
  5. All students must wear a proper aikido uniform.  By the time you are qualified  to attend this class you should have put enough time into your training where it becomes necessary for you to have purchased a uniform.
  6. This class should only be attended by those who have been cleared by Sensei.
If you are not sure where you stand please ask.

**Please note these requirements have been put in place to maintain a certain level of training intensity and safety.  We don’t want anyone to be injured.  This can easily happen if one is in over their head.  Also it is not fair to those who are more senior.  It is necessary for their growth and advancement in aikido to train at a higher level.  If we are not pressed and challenged in our training we do not improve and become stagnate.  We want to avoid this if at all possible for obvious reasons.  If you cannot at this time fulfill the requirements on this list please don’t be discouraged.  Keep training in the basic class and sometime very soon you will be joining your fellow doka in the intermediate class.  If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Sensei.**
